Former President Barack Obama escalated his political attack on Donald Trump this weekend, using a campaign rally to criticize the current administration's perceived focus on cryptocurrency deals that benefit the Trump family.
Speaking in support of Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, Obama accused President Trump of prioritizing his "billionaire pals and finance bros" while failing to address the broader economic concerns of everyday Americans.
Obama specifically targeted the Trump family's financial stake in the cryptocurrency venture World Liberty Financial (WLF). Reports indicate that members of the Trump family own more than half of WLF, which has allegedly generated hundreds of millions of dollars.
The former President alleged that the Trump family is benefiting from foreign nationals and rich individuals investing in WLF to "stay in the President's good graces." He argued that the administration is expanding his family's wealth through this crypto venture without improving the general economy for the majority of the United States.
"It has been all tricks and no treats under the Trump administration, with every day feeling like Halloween," Obama stated. He added that Trump is attempting to distract voters with social media posts, including AI-generated videos, so that people don't notice "when they are helping the wealthiest, most powerful people in the country consolidate more wealth and power, while the people's bills are still going up."
Obama's comments highlight the increasing intersection of cryptocurrency, political influence, and family business interests now at the forefront of the US political debate.
