Duane Roberts, the visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist widely recognized as the inventor of the frozen burrito, has passed away at the age of 88. His wife, Kelly J. Roberts, confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep Saturday night, just days before what would have been his 89th birthday. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

In a statement, Kelly Roberts praised her late husband as "a visionary entrepreneur, devoted husband, and a man whose heart and generosity forever shaped our family and community."

Roberts’ indelible mark on the food industry began in 1956 when, after serving honorably in the U.S. military, he pioneered and introduced the now-ubiquitous frozen burrito, revolutionizing quick and convenient meals worldwide.

Beyond his contributions to the world's freezers, Roberts was a celebrated developer and philanthropist. He is best known in California for his dedication to preserving history, notably overseeing the extensive restoration of the iconic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside. His philanthropic efforts were broad, extending support to animal welfare causes, education, veterans' organizations, and the arts.

Duane Roberts is remembered by his family and community for his profound wisdom, warmth, and generosity.
